Community Volunteering
Camvol was established in November 2006, and is a UK registered charity. Camvol organises volunteer placements with environment and development related organisations in India. Students usually volunteer during the University summer vacation, between July and September each year, for a period of six to eight weeks.
Cambridge Oxfam Group is a group of volunteers who support Oxfam by campaigning and fundraising. We welcome people of all ages and backgrounds who wish to help.
STAR is a society dedicated to raising awareness and campaigning for refugees alongside volunteering with refugees in the local community. Activites include visiting detainees at Oakington Detention centre, teaching in Cambridgeshire schools on refugee issues and running an English conversation group for local refugees.
Who are Cambridge Volunteers in Nepal (CVN)?
* A group of Cambridge students who have all volunteered in Nepal in the past and wish to continue sending as many volunteers as possible out to the same schools in Nepal each summer because we love Nepal and want to continue helping by letting Nepal inspire more people!
* We are not a gap year organisation: we are a democratic student group who take no money for arranging the placements, but are just the link to facilitate the teacher placements and help advise and prepare the volunteers.
Linkline is a listening and information service run by students for students in Cambridge. We are open from 7pm-7am every night of full term and offer both a phone-line and a drop-in service, although the latter is only available until 10:30pm. We’re here because we understand that sometimes you just need to talk and that there are times when your friends aren’t about or when you may not feel comfortable talking to them for whatever reason. Linkline provides an anonymous way to talk to someone who will listen confidentially and non-judgmentally to whatever you have to say.
Cambridge RAG involves students in fundraising activities to support several different charities at local, national and international levels. We run several events throughout the year for both members of the university and the general populace of Cambridge including a beer festival, pyjama pub crawl, fine wine auction, jailbreak event, blind date, a duck race....
SCA is an independent charity which recruits volunteers from the student community to help those in need within the Cambridge community.
We facilitate access to over 50 projects, 10 of which we run ourselves.
Moreover, we provide plenty of opportunities for students to become involved in the management of the organisation and its projects by becoming committee members, project leaders or college reps.

Expeditions allow you to go and experience some of the remotest and most beautiful corners of the earth. They offer you an incredible opportunity to gain a deep and fulfilling appreciation of cultures and ways of life very different from your own. Expeditions are not just rewarding adventures but actually do something valuable and worthwhile. CUEX projects focus on collaborating with local people and organisations in your host country so that your project too can make a difference.
This is a project to set up a volunteer-run community cafe in central Cambridge, which would be open in the evenings and serve hot drinks and simple food. The space would be an alternative to the loud, alcohol focused college bars which are currently available to students, and would create a bridge between students from different colleges and between students and non-students in Cambridge. It would also be available as a focal point for meetings, discussions, talks, music, art exhibitions, and much more.
EWB Cambridge is the local arm of a national student-run charity giving students experience working on technical solutions to problems in the developing world. Talks and training on development themes is also offered. The EWB-UK HQ is also in Cambridge, offering a fast-track route to getting involved in running a real international NGO and charity. You don't have to be an engineer to get involved!
