CUiD is a student-run society whose mission is to provide a non-partisan platform to raise awareness on international development issues and to promote the open discussion of them. We aim to motivate students to discuss, debate and take action on issues in international development, such as poverty, global health, climate change, and education - to name just a few. We do this by organising speaker events, panel debates and discussion fora that stimulate dialogue between students, academics and development professionals from developed and developing countries, and that encourage students to question assumptions and opinions. Our termly magazine, Vision, provides another platform on which students can explore issues that interest them and voice their views, as does the Cambridge chapter of the U8, through its events and its research projects. CUiD was set up in 2005 by Sheena Sumaria. We are a member of the Humanitarian Centre and the Cambridge Hub, and are also a founding member of the U8 Global Student Partnership for Development.
